PROBLEM
Tribist is more than just a swiping experience; it's an immersive journey into a world of exhilarating events, where friendship sparks fly!
In our digital age, social media connections often lack depth, fostering feelings of loneliness, especially for newcomers. Our app aims to bridge this gap by providing a platform for in-person connections through diverse social events. Yet, we've noticed a trend where enthusiasm to attend events doesn't always translate to participation. Addressing this is crucial for fostering lasting friendships and enhancing the social experience. So, the question arises: How might we ensure that those who express their intention to attend events indeed follow through with their attendance?
SOLUTION
Build an app with robust RSVP tracking and engagement features to ensure that individuals expressing intent to attend events are more likely to follow through with their attendance.
The goal is to increase the conversion of accepted invites to event attendees by:
Ensuring effective communication through notifications, reminders etc.
Enhancing visibility to identify others who are also planning to attend.
Incorporating a sharing feature to declare your intent and foster a sense of accountability.
Introducing a dual-response RSVP category, allowing users to precisely communicate their intention to attend.
Providing cost-effective incentives to keep the users motivated to attend.
Implementing a profile and mutual following feature to connect individuals with similar interests and hobbies
Having a ‘feedback system’ to excite potential attendees
Encouraging attendance through discussions, community engagement with features like ‘event chat’
A spiffy explore screen
Simply pin your precise location or tap on the state that you’re in to unveil local events
Discover a myriad of upcoming events through a simple scroll or using the handy filter tags based on your interests!
Not sure about RSVP-ing just yet..
Dive into the event chat for some pre-party banter and toss in your questions.
Also, peek at the attendee list – who knows, you might find your motivation to hit that 'Going' button!
Found an event of interest?
Go ahead and follow the organizer for more or jump straight to the RSVP
IS THE USER ANNOUNCING THEIR INTENTION RIGHT?
Dual-category RSVP system
Choosing the RSVP option wisely based on two categories narrows the gap between those expressing intent and actual attendance. Opting for 'interested' not only opens doors for more significant incentives but also gives a chance to sweeten the deal for user’s attendance 😉
NEED AN EXTRA PUSH?
Take a look at our ‘Attendee’s Guarantee’ - this feature reinforces trust and ensures you make the right choice to join the event
Reminders, reminders, reminders
And oh, having the user’s email address and providing an option to check those boxes comes in handy for delivering updates, reminders, and event information. Because while communication is key, effective communication is even better!
Get ready to rock the event!
Pop that ticket into your wallet for a smooth entry and a handy reminder. Plus, share the event with folks you think would vibe – not just to keep yourself accountable *wink*, but to make it a more fun, delightful event!
How to keep the user from changing their mind post purchase?
INCENTIVES, INCENTIVES INCENTIVES
Experience the magic of Event-Exclusive Incentives—perks reserved for those who grace the event in person!

Audit of current user flow
To further understand the decisions a user must make, I conducted an audit of the userflows of three competitor apps - Eventbrite, Facebook and Meetup. This was done to identify usability problems and also to help detect paint points that a user experiences during their journey.

USERFLOWS
WIREFRAMES
Once the user flow was established, I transformed my envisioned design solutions into tangible form on paper using these wireframes. Despite their messy appearance, they proved to be functional and effective!

VISUAL DESIGN
I conducted two rounds of usability testing in which the users interacted with the clickable prototype to perform essential tasks. The tasks that the users were requested to complete can be found here. I recorded their feedback and implemented necessary changes.
Based on the results, the following improvements were made in the designs:
TESTING + IMPROVEMENTS
Integrated a carousel feature showcasing various states, allowing users to uncover local happenings with just a swift tap.
Introduced dialogue boxes to ensure that the offers presented to the user take center stage with enhanced visibility
Added an extra oomph to the overall UI, aligning it even more closely with the brand's identity.

SUMMARY
What went well
I had the advantage of numerous exceptional apps in the market, such as Eventbrite and Meetup, which served as fantastic sources of inspiration for bringing together 'Tribist'. These existing platforms provided valuable insights and benchmarks to guide the design and functionality of my application.
Key challenges
Carving a distinct niche for 'Tribist' amidst numerous outstanding apps proved challenging, as integrating existing strengths while addressing weaknesses posed complexity in finding a unique selling poin
I encountered difficulties when striving for a balanced approach, especially concerning the app's overall look and its name. The choice of 'Tribist' aimed to evoke a return to authentic, enduring friendships formed through in-person connections at events, rather than superficial online interactions. To maintain the 'Tribist' essence, I carefully crafted a warm color palette inspired by tribal culture while keeping the UI and overall look contemporary and modern.
Taking care of all non-design functions as a solo UX Designer made it challenging to maintain a holistic perspective on the project, potentially leading to blind spots in the user experience. To mitigate this, I regularly consulted with my mentor, whose guidance helped identify blind spots and prioritize critical elements, ensuring a comprehensive design approach.
FUTURE STEPS
Enhance the social integration aspect of 'Tribist' by incorporating personalized ‘chat feature’, enabling users to directly message those they follow or wish to connect with. This feature is envisioned to serve as an effective icebreaker, fostering initial interactions before attending events or simply expanding one's social circle within the app.
Include a location-based feature that allows users to discover and ‘follow‘ those who are in close proximity from them. This is intended to help individuals connect with interesting folks nearby but also opens the door for planning and attending events together.
Strengthening these social elements within Tribist aligns with the app's core philosophy of fostering genuine connections through shared interests and real-life interactions.
